On-Site and Online Accessibility

Accessibility Statement 

Trinity United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg, MD is committed to providing a physical presence that it fully accessible. We also strive to ensure that our online presence is presented in an accessible format.

We believe that everyone should have access to our church, our services, and our ministries. To accomplish this, we are committed to working to ensure that our on-site and our online presence are fully accessible. 

On-Site Accessibility and Security

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate, contribute, and belong to our community. We also believe that people with disabilities positively affect and enhance human diversity and community life. Therefore, in keeping with biblical teachings, our Wesleyan traditions, and our United Methodist policies  regarding people with disabilities, we endeavor to ensure that there are no physical barriers that can impair anyone's ability to worship with us.

Measures to Support Accessibility

Physical Mobility: Our back entrance is wheelchair accessible. We also provide wheelchairs for those who need one. Our church is all one level so we are easily accessible for those with limited mobility. Areas of our church where floors are not fully level have low slope ramps to ensure easy access.

Handrails: Our front entrance and the ramp between the fellowship hall and sanctuary are equipped with hand rails. Bathrooms are also equipped with handrails. ​

Doors: Our door width enable wheelchair movement. Doors are equipped with lever handles or push bars

Seating: Those with using physical assistive equipment can be seated in a variety of locations in order to feel fully integrated into our services 

Disability Parking: Our back parking lot is equipped with disability parking that is clearly marked.

Restrooms: Restrooms have handrails for extra security and assistance. Sink and fixtures allow knee access for those in wheelchairs. Toilets are chair level. Restrooms are also equipped with changing stations suitable for babies and young children. 

Low Vision: We offer large print bibles and hymnals and have large screen displays throughout the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall.

 

Low Hearing: Trinity has listening devices that connect directly into our sound system.​

Training: Trinity has an anti-discrimination training program that is required of all leaders and volunteers on an annual basis. 

Emergencies: We have church members trained in first aid and CPR. We also have a defibrillator on site with trained volunteers.

Audit: An accessibility audit is conducted annually.



 

Online Accessibility

We strive to present this website as accessible to all persons, including those who use assistive technologies. This site is designed to allow content to be accessed more quickly, to ease navigation, to present material better through a variety of browsers, and to decrease download times. Below is information explaining the features implemented on this web site. 

Measures to Support Accessibility

 

Browsers: This website is designed to be accessible with major browser accessibility technologies, including Chrome and Foxfire. 

Images: All images can be zoomed to 200% for low vision users. Alt-text is also provide for all images for readers. 

Formatting: To accommodate those with cognitive and visual impairments, the church's website is formatted with amble white space for ease of reading. Contrast is appropriate with dark text on light backgrounds to ensure readability. Colored text is not used to convey meaning. Logical heading structures are used.

Page Structuring: Headings and paragraphs are logically structured to ensure functionality of assistive reader technologies.     

                                

Links and Buttons: Large and easily identifiable links and buttons are used to accommodate  those with motor and visual impairments.

Mobile Compliant: Trinity's online presence is fully mobile compliant

Procurement Practices: Trinity utilizes equipment and services that help establish and enhance our online accessibility.

Trained Personnel: The church uses the services of persons trained in online accessibility to create and maintain our website. 

WCAG: Trinity requires web designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Trinity United Methodist Church is either fully or nearly conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA.

Evaluation: Trinity's online accessibility is reviewed by personnel certified in online accessibility.
